On January 11, 2013, ANA will begin a five day a week 787 between San Jose, California and Tokyo, Japan. The flight will depart San Jose at 1145am every day except Tuesday and Thursday. It will arrive in Tokyo at 4:10 p.m. The return flight will leave Tokyo at 5:35 p.m. and arrive at SJC at 10:10 the following morning.
This will be the first 787 flight into the Bay Area. It sounds like a very delightful way to fly into the USA. For passnegers flying to Tokyo, ANA will offer great connections to their Asian destinations. For passengers flying into San Jose, there are not many onward connections without travelling the 58km to San Francisco (36 miles) airport. Southwest is the biggest airline at the airport and they definitely do not have an interline agreement with ANA. United Airlines, a Star Alliance partner with ANA has a modest presence at San Jose with flights to Denver, Houston and Los Angeles US Airways (also Star Alliance) flies to Phoenix . So one assumes that ANA is hoping that all the traffic will originate and finish in the Bay Area.
ANA have stated that the 787-8 aircraft will have 46 business-class seats and 112 economy-class seats.
