On June 29, Ethiopian Airlines collected its first A350XWB becoming the seventh operator of the type after Cathay Pacific Airways, Finnair, LATAM Airlines, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines and Vietnam Airlines. They are the first African Airline to take delivery of the A50. It’s first 350 is named Simien Mountains, after the world heritage site Ethiopian mountain range.
To celebrate, the airlines achieved the world record of creating the largest ever human image of an aircraft with 350 members of staff standing in formation wearing bright yellow uniforms.
Ethiopian’s first A350 flew from Addis Ababa (ADD) to Lagos (LOS) route on July 2. It will also be operating the Addis Ababa to Dubai route.
There will be 30 Cloud Nine and 313 Economy seats on board giving a total of 343 seats. This means there would not be room on the plane for seven of the people assembling the human shaped 350 model unless they are the cabin crew!
The airline was also the first African airline to take possession of the 787. I am intending to fly the Ethiopian 787 in December this year. I flew my first 787 with LATAM in June and have upcoming 787 flights with Thai, Scoot and Jetstar. By the end of the year, I will have flown the 787 operated by five different airlines!
I will fly the 350 for the first time later in the year with Thai.
