In my airline ranking of last year, I placed Air Asia in my worst airline list. This caused some controversy!
Air Asia are one of the world’s fastest growing carriers operating to 88 destinations in 26 countries from its base in Kuala Lumpur. Originally started in 1996, they were taken over by current CEO Tony Fernandes in 2001. They have the world’s lowest operating costs of any airline and have been awarded one of the world’s best low fare carriers by Skytrax in 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2009.
I have not flown them this year so am interested to see how things are and if I like them better! Especially after all those awards!
Any suggestions or advice welcomed.

You even got the CEO’s name wrong.
This shows how ignorant you are about the airlines.
Flown Air Asia last month DMK-URT and back. Contrary to many reviews, flights were on time, on board luggage weighted more then “allowed” 7 Kg (no problem, no checking) and overall experience was O.K., not much different then what to expect from typical coach in US (no free peanuts or coke, though).
Additionally, air fare was 4x less then BKK-USM.
Check in early and pay for seat assignment 😉
Thanks for the hads up. I was just about to buy a ticket for a flight in SE Asia. I’ll wait to see what you have to say before buying.
Hi Pete. Thanks for your comments. The CEO is indeed Tony Fernandes. Here is a link: http://www.airasia.com/ask/template.do;jsessionid=7E28F0506A646AE3FED0114CC3615ABF.tomcat3?id=396
Flew them once Macau-BKK, paid for seat selection, pre-selected meal and baggage. 30 minute departure delay, everything else went as expected.
Have flown air Asia numerous times including long haul to CHC and SYD. They’re competent but you need to know how they make money and not get caught paying extra.
No major delays, no lost luggage. Can’t complain for the price.
If only they could fix their damn website. After logging in, try to click Manage Booking. It goes to login page again even though you are logged in. and then you cant log in from that page.
Trying to contact customer care now. see if they can fix something.
