This is a startling map of the reality of metric system. This system originated in France in 1799 after the French Revolution and now rules the world…except for the USA, Liberia and Burma.
Belize in Central America still uses the English system of measuremens: inches, feet, yards, miles, acres, gallons, etc.
And if one wants another fun map, look at the list (or map) of nations that have NOT had a war with or been invaded by the UK in the last 300-350 years. It is a Very Small list.
Of course, it’s not always the case that if everyone does something, it must be right. However, US exceptionalism is so extreme that one knows that it is generally wrong. And, in this case, the US military and much of its international industry has no choice but to work in metric. So, as could be said in another context, it’s the lumpen proletariat holding the US back.
Just because everyone else does it doesn’t make it right. 🙂
