Each year choosing a destination to ring in the new year usually comes down to where we can find the best deal and/or where I can cash in some Frequent Flyer points. I have now celebrated NY Eve in 15 different cities including Sydney, Australia, Dallas, Texas and Cebu, Philippines.

My NY Eve Spots
Thanks to some excess Delta points, I was never going to use, we are off to Shanghai, China for the Western New Year 2017/2018. This will be the first time I have actually set foot in China (as opposed to traveling through). China will be the 64th country I have ever been to. And at 24 million people, Shanghai will be the 199th city of over 100,000 people I have visited!
I also get to fly on two new airlines (for me) China Eastern and low-cost carrier Spring which comes with a low-cost reputation.
Shanghai is a city that has fascinated me for a long time. One of the most important seaports in the world and China’s largest commercial centre, Shanghai is reputed to be a remarkable global city. We are staying in the Former French Concession, an area of tree-lined streets and 1930s architecture. I am looking forward to seeing the historic Bund, an avenue of historic architecture and the massive modernisation. I rate every city I visit, so it will be interesting to see what we think of Shanghai.
What are your NYEve plans? Any advice on Shanghai?
