This is indeed mindblowing
World Car Free Day
It is World Car Free Day today. Every year on 22 September, people are encouraged to think how our cities might look like, feel like, and sound like without cars…365 days a year.

Visiting Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur (known as KL by locals) started in 1857 as a mining town. It apparently means “muddy river confluence” in Malay. It was made capital of the Federated Malay States in 1896 and then became capital of modern Malaysia in 1957. It is now a massive sprawling city of 243 km² (94 sq miles) with an estimated population of 1.6 million. The greater KL area has eight million people. I have been to KL a few times now but not reviewed it before. Like all cities, I visit, I rate key aspects of the city…

Watching Costa Concordia
I am watching live the salvage of the Costa Concordia sitting on my desk top right now. It is quite gripping. The Guardian also has a regular update for each step of the process. The Costa Concordia, on the night of January 13, 2012, struck a reef near Giglio Island, took on water through a 70-meter (230-foot) gash in its hull and then capsized just outside the harbour. Thirty-two of the 4,200 passengers and crew members died. The bodies of two of the dead have never been found. They may lie beneath the wreckage. Also trapped inside…
Ode to a Pen-a flying essential
At Sydney airport this week, desperate passengers approached the departures area. looking for pens to complete their departure cards. The pens supplied by the airport had been ripped off the chains at the desk leaving their chains dangling. Any passenger seen with a pen was fair game, as passengers mobbed them! A shop nearby, was selling pens for $1.75 +, a slight markup on a pen sold for 30 cents elsewhere. When travelling, I carry six pens: two in my laptop bag, one in my pocket, one with my passport and two in my main luggage. This might sound…
Visit the Great Wonders on Street View
Since antiquity, the world’s great wonders have been compiled. The original list of Seven Wonders has grown longer and longer since those times documenting both nature and human contributions to the planet. Today only one of the original Seven Wonders: The Great Pyramid of Giza is still standing I love the World’s Wonders Projects site where one can explore all of the wonders in streetview. Google Street View allows us to visit places through 360-degree, panoramic, and street-level imagery. Much less effort, cost and environmental impact to allow millions to view these locations!
Air Berlin loses 200 bags -at once!
It may not seem like it but airlines aim to not lose bags. On August 9, 2013 Air Berlin flight 8109 landed in Berlin from Stockholm with none of the passenger’s bags on board! The bags were all left at the airport. The airline then could not find any of the bags. Passengers started a Facebook group called ‘Airberlin 8109 Stockholm to Berlin – Where are our bags?!?!?’. The group’s description says: “Baggage company says to contact airline; airline says to contact baggage company. Vacations & weddings ruined. We still can’t comprehend why the…
Lest we forget
On this day, we remember the crews and passengers of the airliners, those killed in the buildings, the volunteers and first responders who lost lives and health, the children who lost parents, the victims of terrorism and war since, and all those touched by the destruction of September 11, 2001.
