A Royal Flying Doctor Service plane, with a hospital transfer patient on board, was coming in for a scheduled 7.50pm landing at Blackwater Airport last Thursday. It hit a kangaroo and shuddered to a halt as it landed. No people were injured but the damage done will cost the service around $AU200 000 to repair. After the accident, another RFDS plane landed to transport the passenger to Rockhampton and an engineer flew in to inspect the aircraft the next day. This is the third kangaroo strike the service has had in the past 12 months…

Watching Costa Concordia
I am watching live the salvage of the Costa Concordia sitting on my desk top right now. It is quite gripping. The Guardian also has a regular update for each step of the process. Thirty-two of the 4,200 passengers and crew members died. The bodies of two of the dead have never been found. They may lie beneath the wreckage. Also trapped inside…
Visit the Great Wonders on Street View
Since antiquity, the world’s great wonders have been compiled. The original list of Seven Wonders has grown longer and longer since those times documenting both nature and human contributions to the planet. Today only one of the original Seven Wonders: The Great Pyramid of Giza is still standing I love the World’s Wonders Projects site where one can explore all of the wonders in streetview. Google Street View allows us to visit places through 360-degree, panoramic, and street-level imagery. Much less effort, cost and environmental impact to allow millions to view these locations!
Air Berlin loses 200 bags -at once!
It may not seem like it but airlines aim to not lose bags. On August 9, 2013 Air Berlin flight 8109 landed in Berlin from Stockholm with none of the passenger’s bags on board! The bags were all left at the airport. The airline then could not find any of the bags. Passengers started a Facebook group called ‘Airberlin 8109 Stockholm to Berlin – Where are our bags?!?!?’. The group’s description says: “Baggage company says to contact airline; airline says to contact baggage company. Vacations & weddings ruined. We still can’t comprehend why the…
Where Britain has not invaded
Based on a tip from a reader this week, I found this interesting map. Stuart Laycock, a British Historian has identified that 90% of the world’s countries were at some point invaded by the British in his book: All the Countries We’ve Ever Invaded: And the Few We Never Got Round To. Not all were captured and not all became part of the Empire. It makes a fascinating image. The nations in pink were invaded or taken over in some way at some point Related Posts Going Metric – A Startling View
