I am very nerdish about numbers and number patterns. I like that this week will see the 11th day of the 11th month!
I have recorded every flight I have ever been on since my first plane trip almost five decades ago. A couple of years ago, I matched the aircraft with my flights. So my 737th flight was on a Southwest 737. Then my 747th was on a Qantas 747 (pics left and below), 757 on a United 757 and so on. Sadly the timing of the 787 roll out did not allow me to have my 787th on a 787!
Realising that my very next flight with Qantas will be my 380th flight with the airline made me determined to get on an Airbus 380 for it.
Qantas have 12 of the Superjumbo and I have flown on six of them between the USA and Australia. (I have also been on 380s belonging to five other airlines). It is one of my favourite aircraft ever.
The question was where to fly on the 380? I considering hopping aboard their longest 380 flight from Sydney to Dallas Fort Worth non-stop which clocks in at 14 hours and 50 minutes. The routing did not fit in with any of my plans, however.
I have chosen instead, Qantas’ second longest A380 flight which goes from from Melbourne, Australia to Dubai, UAE non stop. Leaving Melbourne at 1130pm, the overnight service touches down in Dubai at 655 in the morning after a 14 hour and five-minute journey.
Thanks to my American Airlines points and a top up with one of their points purchasing deals, I have got what I believe is the prime seat on the plane for a fraction of the price.
Now to count the sleeps down!
