This Week: 28 May

I have not been inside a plane for three weeks! Consider,  I have flown 45 times so far in 2012- an average of 10 flights per month. In 2012, I  have covered 134 334km  – three and a third times around the earth! 14 airlines flown to 11 countries! One week of this year has been spent inside planes!         In contrast, for the last 21 days,  I have had no check ins, no lounges, no safety briefings and no plane food!  This has been almost a shock! This will change with an…

Qatar Airways Competition Help

I have entered the Qatar Airways Reflections contest with five photos and need your vote to help me win. You will have to register with Qatar but you can do that using your Facebook id or an email address. I would really appreciate it. Thank you! Here are four of my five entries along with link to vote for that photo. 1. Mont Saint-Michel  Rising out of the sea, one kilometre off the north-western coast of France, Saint-Michel has been a strategic point in Normandy and a monastery since the 8th century AD.The place has an almost magical feel heightened by the tidal movements which…

This Week: 23 to 30 April

I am in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina today. Fly up to  New York City, before flying down to Buenos Aires,  the capital and largest city of Argentina. I know its the second-largest metropolitan area in South America, after Greater Sao Paulo. Any advice for Buenos Aires? Its my first time in Argentina! I will only have three flights this week (only) on two airlines only this week: US Airways and American (ugh).US Airways have pleasantly surprised on my recent flights with them as to how much better they have come. I used to think they were not that good. I…

Trying Spirit-First Time

A lot of miles to cover this week. Seven flights to three countries with four airlines. Qantas: Melbourne to Auckland, NZ via Sydney  Virgin Australia: Melbourne to  Los Angeles in Premium Economy product. Any Virgin Australia 777 flyers have any recommendation as to the better Premium Economy seats? Spirit: I chose Spirit deliberately so I could see what they are like as I have never flown them. Wish me luck for that flight! Spirit are supposed to be a little like Ryanair (who I hate flying with). I am fascinated to see. Related Posts Why is…

I have also reached a milestone of five times the distance to the moon! I am closing in on two million kilometres of flying! What are you up to this week?

This Week

I am spending most of the week in Western Australia, the largest of Australia’s states with three days in Perth and two days in Esperance, a small rural community  Perth is the most remote city of a population of one million or more in the world. Its nearest large city is Adelaide, Australia  2,139 kilometres (1285 miles) away. I will then heading 2700km (1500 miles) east to Sydney. Flights will be with Skywest and Virgin Australia (expect blog posts soon). This week I plan to blog about a recent train trip and whats the latest with Air…

Running in Perth

One of the ways I get to know a city, when I am travelling is to run through it. It needs little equipment and no fixed time periods and it is something you can almost do in any weather. I have just completed today, a stunning 6 mile (10 kilometre) run around Perth, the capital of Western Australia. Known as the Bridges run, it starts at Langley Park (thats where I am standing in this photo) The course headed west  along the river on the city side, past the Perth Ferry Terminal with its iconic…

I fly from New York to Melbourne via Los Angeles and Sydney (United and Qantas with a sector on my beloved 380!) bringing my flights for the year to 25 from 22 airports in 9 countries on 4 continents with 10 airlines! So much for flying less in 2012! Check out myFlightmemory for more information. Home briefly before heading to Perth, Western Australia (flight 26 for…
