My 300th time thru Sydney

This week I celebrate another geeky milestone! I have now flown into or out of SYD Sydney’s (Kingsford Smith) Airport 300 times! Of the 212 airports I have travelled through in my life, this Australian airport is my second most visited:

1 MEL Melbourne Invalid request error occurred. 328 15.7 %  4.2
2 SYD Sydney Invalid request error occurred. 300 14.3 %  2.9
3 LAX Los Angeles Invalid request error occurred. 99 4.7 %  1.7
4 ADL Adelaide Invalid request error occurred. 78 3.7 %  4.4
5 AKL Auckland Invalid request error occurred. 78 3.7 %  3.2

Since my first flight into Sydney on 3rd July 1971 on a Pan Am 747,  I have now travelled to or from Sydney on 29 airlines. Obviously mostly on the Australian carriers: the late Ansett, Virgin Australia and Qantas. My favourite airlines that connect Sydney to the world: Emirates, Air New Zealand, Cathay Pacific and LAN.

My least favourite? Tiger, China Airlines and United.

United’s 747s have taken me between Sydney and Los Angeles or Sydney and San Francisco multiple times.  United has now replaced these 747s with much more modern planes including the fabulous 787. And I find myself on the mighty A380 more often than the 747 these days.

I reckon I have strolled down almost every aerobridge in all three terminals of the current airport and boarded a plane for 29 airports in nine countries. I have flown from Sydney to every Australian state capital.Screen Shot 2015-06-25 at 9.33.01 pm

Internationally, Sydney is a major gateway.  New Zealand, US, Thai and Singapore airports have been the most commonly visited on my travels from Sydney. I have yet to try the world’s longest non stop route from Dallas Fort Worth!

For someone who has flown as many times from Sydney IMG_2445airport, it has never been one of my favourite places.  The domestic terminals are now quite pleasant but the international is pretty ordinary.

A new Sydney airport is coming so it will be interesting to see what will happen to the existing set up which has been an airport in one shape or another since 1919!

Which airports have you flown into or out of the most?

The Verdict- Sydney airport

My Flight Rating: Overall 58% (3 out of 5).

Skytrax: Sydney airport has a four star rating but skytrax reviewing passengers

rate it 4 out of 10.

Positives: Clean
Negatives: Cramped, crowded
Would I fly there again? Yes- no choice really!
