Air Safety- Who I will and won’t fly.

Flying is incredibly safe. There are over 5000 airlines with ICAO codes. Very few of those carriers experience any major emergency incidents. Others do.

Who do you know is safe or not? I rely on airlineratings.com, that rate about 10 percent of all airlines. Out of those airlines, extrapolating airlineratings.com data, 35% of airlines are fully compliant with seven safety measures. Now no one can guarantee that a “seven star” airline won’t have a crash involving fatalities but they are compliant with the most stringent safety requirements.

In addition,  12% are one star airlines that no one should fly on. Sadly most of those airlines ply the skies of developing countries with many operating in countries like Afghanistan, Nepal and Surinam where politics are less stable, safety checks more lax, traffic control systems more under developed and military  incursions more common.

Paranoid for my safety in the air, I try to choose airlines, routes and airports that are the safest.

These are carriers that not only have airlineratings top safety recommendations, they also have superior service.

There are other airlines who have great safety but I find their service is lacking. For example: American airlines in the USA who consistently rank at the bottom of customer surveys but I would trust my life on them.

These are airlines that get much lower safety ratings  and also have less enjoyable on board service. Many have experienced recent loss of aircraft.
