Hishammuddin Hussein, Malaysia’s defence and acting transport minister at a media conference this Monday evening (Malaysian time) said 26 countries are now involved in the search for the plane (up from 25 this morning and 14 yesterday). The countries are Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, China, France, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Turkmenistan, UAE, UK, US, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam. Malaysia calls for help from 25 nations
Malaysia‘s defence and transport minister Hishammuddin Hussein told a press conference that “The number of countries involved in the search and rescue operation has increased from 14 to 25“. The search area now involves eleven countries. In addition, the Indian Ocean has an average depth of 3,890 metres (12,762 ft). MAS 370 could be in 634 places
If Malaysia Airlines MH 370 has landed, WNYC, a New York City public radio station, estimates it could have landed on 634 runways in 26 different countries. “Data from X-Plane provides coordinates for runways around the world. A Boeing 777 pilot is quoted in Slate as estimating a runway length requirement of 5,000 feet [1.5km]. A recent Wall Street Journal article quoted sources stating the flight could have continued for 2,200 nautical miles [4074 kilometres] from its last known position. No Dangerous Goods on MH370
Quashing another rumour, Malaysia Airlines CEO Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said at yesterday’s Media Conference that no hazardous goods were loaded onto the missing flight. Jauhari said that the 777’s cargo was checked and scanned according to standard procedures: “We examined the cargo manifest, it contains no hazardous goods”.
Wonderful cockpit view of 737 takeoff
This video shows a late afternoon take-off from Hamburg (HAM) in a Boeing 737. The airport has two runways, 17 jet-ways and 54 apron positions. Easyjet and Germanwings have the largest presence at the airport. It is located 8.5 km (5.3 mi) north of the City of Hamburg. The easiest way to the airport is by train with a ten minute frequency on the S1 line. The trip to Hamburg Central (Hamburg Hauptbahnhof) station takes 25 minutes. Good bye DC10
On 24 February, 2014 a Biman Bangledesh DC10 flew its last commercial passenger flight from Dakka, Bangledesh to Birmingham, England. The plane was retired from regular Biman service in December, 2013 as a result of the airline taking a new 777: E9 S2-AHM (msn 40120). The new plane is named “Akashprodip” and replaces the retired DC-10 for long-range flights to destinations such as Frankfurt, Rome, London and Birmingham.
