Will I keep flying?

First of all it was MH370, then MH 17, then Taiwan, Iran, one in Mali and a shooting at a plane in Pakistan. Lots of people have been asking me whether I will keep flying after these horrific events. A poll, conducted for TheStreet by GfK at the end of July found that 36% of Americans feel afraid to fly internationally. Women are more fearful than men, older people are more fearful than younger people. For an Australian who flies Malaysia Airlines a lot and who has traversed the skies above the Ukraine a few times in my Europe voyages,…

Future Options for Malaysia Airlines?

A friend of mine has just purchased a round trip ticket with Malaysia airlines for travel between Thailand and Australia via Malaysia for a fraction over $US500. This trip of  7 804 km (4,849 miles) normally sits at around $1100 to $1200. A good deal is around $700. Such is the desire to get people onto their planes, that Malaysia Airlines is discounting heavily. The discounts are designed to match arch rival Air Asia and attract passengers “scared off” Malaysia Airlines after the disappearance of Flight 370 on 8th March. The appearance of a Skytrax…

Flying one week after MH370

I flew last night over Malaysia and the Straits of Malacca. Was a bit spooky flying one week later at about the same time of the morning as the missing plane. Colleagues at work questioned how I felt flying the same time in the same sort of plane. My 777 experienced a few bumps so the captain left the seat belt sign on for quite a while. I landed safely in Bangkok at 1240am local time (140am Malaysian time). This is just after time the plane’s last voice transmission. But I landed. For the families of the…

MH 370 Stolen Passport Holders Victims too

The two men flying on MH370 appear to be in the same situation as the other 237 other people  on the flight  -victims of whatever fate has befallen the 777. BBC Persia, Malaysian Insider, The Telegraph and Yahoo Malaysia are reporting that the passport holders were young Iranians trying to make a new life in Europe. One was  19 years of age, flying to see his mother in Frankfurt and the other was seeking his fortune in Denmark. They paid for passports that were not theirs and arranged for tickets to be paid in cash…
