Sun rises on a new day in Malaysia

Sunrise this morning in Malaysia is at 0722am local time today. With the sun rise comes a bewildering lack of answers as to how one of the world’s safest aeroplanes flown by a five star airline suddenly vanished off radar screens on a routine flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The weather was clear with no warnings. The signs point to a catastrophic event for Malaysia Airlines MH 370.  If there had been a mechanical failure,  the pilot should have been able to radio for help. Did the plane suddenly break up and/or went into a very steep dive, similar to…

MH370- Reunion gives news but not answers

The news that part of an aeroplane has washed up on the shore of the Island of Réunion last Wednesday gives little comfort to families and friends of those who were on Malaysia Airlines 370 that disappeared on March 8, 2014. Confirmation by Malaysia on Friday, that the part is a flaperon and is indeed from a Boeing 777 tells us that it is likely that the plane did indeed end up in the sea. It does not tell us how, where or why. (See wsj: What is a flaperon?) Additional information emerged that a suitcase was…

Future Options for Malaysia Airlines?

A friend of mine has just purchased a round trip ticket with Malaysia airlines for travel between Thailand and Australia via Malaysia for a fraction over $US500. This trip of  7 804 km (4,849 miles) normally sits at around $1100 to $1200. A good deal is around $700. Such is the desire to get people onto their planes, that Malaysia Airlines is discounting heavily. The discounts are designed to match arch rival Air Asia and attract passengers “scared off” Malaysia Airlines after the disappearance of Flight 370 on 8th March. The appearance of a Skytrax…

MH 370 – THE report – Key Findings

A preliminary report on MH370,  submitted to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)  has been made public. There is not a lot of new information in the main report.  In the accompanying materials there is some new content. A  press conference was held earlier today. Malaysian time, with Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein outlining the information released and the next steps. Released with the preliminary report were audio recordings of conversations between air traffic controllers and the pilots of the 777. There are no indications of concern in the voices of the pilots. MH 370 Update -report due next week

Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 vanished on March 8 with 239 people on board. This week, material was found on Australian beach that some thought may have been from the plane.  Investigators have concluded it was not connected. Bluefin-21, the robotic vehicle has now searched more than 80 per cent of the underwater search zone for Flight MH370 and nothing of any interest have been found. In the same week, sources suggested that the plane may have landed after all. This news fuelled the on going speculation over the plane’s fate. There are more conspiracy theories about what happened…

MH370 Final Words Changed

A transcript released by the Malaysian authorities reveals the final words heard from Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 as:  “Good night Malaysian three seven zero” and not “All right, good night” as announced two weeks ago. The authorities also stated that they are unsure if it was pilot or copilot who last spoke. Previously it had been suggested that the co-pilot uttered the plane’s last words. CNN citing the Wall Street Journal announced that the Malaysian Inspector General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar has indicated that the case of the missing plane is a criminal investigation. Authorities have reportedly…

MH370- 3 weeks 3 questions unanswered

It has been three weeks since MH370 “vanished” from our views. Despite a massive 26 country hunt utilising ships, planes, satellites and investigators, no debris, no passengers and no black box have been found. There are three questions still unanswered. These questions have bothered me since day one: 1. Where is the plane? 2. Why did it end up so off course? 3. What can we do to avoid a repeat? Frustratingly, while it seems the answers are close, they are still out of reach. Based on the length of time it took to find…

MH370 ended in Ocean: Malaysian PM

Malaysia Airlines have informed the families of passengers from flight MH370 that the 777 flew south from it’s intended route and ended its journey in the Indian Ocean. The airline said they told most in person or by phone and some were told by text message: Malaysia Airlines deeply regrets that we have to assume beyond any reasonable doubt that MH370 has been lost and that none of those on board survived. As you will hear in the next hour from Malaysia’s Prime Minister, we must now accept all evidence suggests the plane went down…
